UPDATED: On September 28, Lenca Indigenous land and water defender Rosalina Domínguez was grabbed by a man who tried to hit her with a machete. Luckily, she escaped but Rosalina’s organization COPINH believes this was a clear attempt to kill Rosalina. This is not the first time she has narrowly escaped these attacks.
Death threats and acts of violence by armed men against Rosalina and other defenders in the community of Río Blanco have escalated in the past 6 months, as they continue to defend land and water vital to their survival.
This is the same pattern that preceded the assassination of COPINH leader Berta Cáceres, who led the community of Río Blanco in efforts to stop the damming of the Gualcarque River without their consent.
Rosalina's situation is incredibly dangerous.
Please send a message to the Honduran government to urge them to protect Rosalina and her community.
