We are on the brink of a breakthrough to improve Canada’s treatment of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. But we need urgent action to ensure that this historic opportunity isn’t lost.
Please urge all Senators to move ahead with the crucial work of reconciliation.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada called the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples “the framework for reconciliation.” Last year, the House of Commons passed Bill C-262, a private members bill requiring the federal government to move ahead with the work of implementing the Declaration.
We believe a clear majority of Senators support the UN Declaration and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. However, with only a few weeks left in this sitting of the Senate, it’s crucial that the Bill can proceed to a vote as soon as possible.
Critically, if Bill C-262 isn’t passed by the Senate before this session of Parliament concludes, the opportunity will be lost.
Quite simply, we need all Senators to be there for reconciliation.
